Welcome to Kick The Oil Habit.  My name is Nick and this is a private site that discusses alternative fuels with an emphasis on E85 in the Las Vegas area. I choose to use E85 to minimize my foreign oil consumption. It doesn't matter what type of alternative fuel you choose or what the reason is. The facts are in front of us we must Kick The Oil Habit!

Excerpt from my latest blog entry

4/30/08 - Kick the Cheetos and the Cocktails:
What I have been reading and hearing over and over is that people are starving and bio fuels contribute to a large part of this issue. Bio fuels consume 4% of the worlds grain supply, there has always been a global food shortage and that food shortage has been enhanced for numerous reasons. Not only is a shortage of food the issue but the cost of transporting and packaging the food. The worlds food supply is a complex issue and Bio Fuels are not the culprit.  Actually bio fuels are keeping the cost of oil down which is offsetting some of the rising cost of transporting and packaging of food. If the people that so feverishly tout the demise of bio fuels would also protest Cheetos and evening cocktails maybe the world would get somewhere. Lets take a portion of record breaking oil company profits to pay for the fuel to transport the food to starving people across the globe (desperate times, desperate measures). I might be wrong but aren’t the record profits that the oil companies are making contributing to world hunger as well? Read the rest of this blog.

How Much Oil Does Your Vehicle Use?

I drive an 07 FFV Grand Marquis on E85 it consumes 6.2 barrels of oil for every 15,000 miles or 1 barrel for every 2418 miles (13 MPG average).
In comparison a Prius consumes 7.4 barrels for every 15,000 miles or 1 barrel for every 2027 miles (46.5 MPG average).

FYI: My Grand Marquis on gas would use 19 barrels of oil every 15,000 miles or 1 barrel every 789 miles (18 MPG average).

Check Out The Aptera:

Take a look at the www.aptera.com. The Aptera is a new electric vehicle being built in California and slated for mass production late 2008. It is a slick looking vehicle that will be priced from 26-29K and boasts a minimum of 120 MPG which could be two or three times higher depending on how it is driven. The website has some awesome videos and all the info available. A definite must see.

Kick The Oil Habit & Bacara Ridge

Kick The Oil Habit - Right now this area contains three pages and a public message board. The E85 page has the links, video's and in depth info about E85 and other Bio Fuels. Nick's Blog is where I get it all of my chest. The Alternative Fuel News contains constantly updated links to the articles I find most interesting. The message board is a public area where you can post alternative fuel related messages.  The message board is moderated.

Bacara Ridge - This site started out as bacararidge.com and contained several subjects not just alternative fuels. My primary focus today is to spread the word about alternative fuels but it is not my only interest. So the Bacara Ridge section of my site is alive and well on the Bacara Ridge Page. This area contains plenty of pictures I have taken that you can download for wallpaper. Instructions and video's I have put together on roasting your own coffee, making your own pasta and pizza dough.  An Aerogarden video diary and what ever else comes along that has nothing to do with alternative fuels you'll find it right here on my - Bacara Ridge Page

Thanks for stopping by and remember the site is always changing and growing so keep checking back. Feel free to drop me an email  nick@kicktheoilhabit.com
